Technology Workshops Project-Based Learning Teacher Resources

The Office of Professional Development in Educational Technology assist schools within the Archdiocese of Chicago in integrating technology into their curriculum and instructional methods.

In addition, the office provides workshops, resources and current news related to educational technology at individual schools and regionally.  The technology workshops provide participants with CPDUs, are free of charge and emphasize technology integration into the classroom environment for teaching and learning.   For sign-up contact Mark Viner at: 773-463- 2458 / markviner@sbcglobal.net

Professional Development in Technology offered to OCS's Faculty and Staff, Spring 2011



February 26th. 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

MovieMaker for Teachers. The workshop introduces all the basics to the program Movie Maker. Easier to use than
Power Point, Movie Maker can take your pictures and videos and create an eye-appealing movie. So if you have a lot
of pictures or videos lying around and you want to organize them into a movie this workshop is for you. St. Monica

March 3rd, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

SMARTBoard I. Participants will receive an overall view of what the SMARTBoard can do. They will the basics of
how to use the SMARTBoard in the classroom, from how to plug it into the computer, to how to organize your
classroom lessons. Topics covered on Day 1 include SMART Board Basics, SMART Notebook Basics, Overview of

SMARTBoard II. Using the SMARTBoard on a daily basis? Incorporate the SMARTBoard into your lesson plans.
Learn the advanced capabilities of the SMARTBoard. Topics include developing lessons w/ Lesson Activity Toolkit,
an introduction of SMART Response for assessment, and a Introduction to SMART Notebook Math & Notebook

March 12th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Podcasting and Blogging. The workshop will introduce a teacher to two new innovative teaching methods using of
technology. Audio Pod Casting will allow a teacher to create a radio station, record their voice, or record student’s
voices as a learning tool. Blogging will allow a teacher to post assignment, writing prompts, pictures, and more on the
web for students to comment and reflect on. Both of these tools can be extremely educational when put in the right

March 26th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Beginning PowerPoint for Teachers. This workshop will enhance anyone future Power Points by learning to embed
video, pictures, clip art, music, and more into their presentation. The class will also look at sophisticated Power Point

March 30th, 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Encyclopaedia Britannica K-5. Join us to learn new ways to do research projects with students using Britannica
Online School Edition and to get ideas for integrating technology into your classroom. Bring your questions and we
will be glad to answer them during this hands-on training session. Elementary schools will learn about special features
including:
- Britannica Learning Zone for Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade
- Expanded video and media content, including a video download feature
- Student activities for Reading , Writing, Math, and other subjects
- Differentiating instruction using the Workspace feature.

March 31st , 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Encyclopaedia Britannica 6-12. Join us to learn new ways to do research projects with students using Britannica
Online School Edition and to get ideas for integrating technology into your classroom! Bring your questions and we
will be glad to answer them during this hands-on training session. Middle/junior high and high schools will learn about
special features including:
- The Workspace storage tool for students and teachers to collect Britannica Online research materials for future use.
- Classroom curriculum resources for American History, World Studies, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry and all
levels of Language Arts and Math.
- Expanded video and media content, including a video download feature.
- Web 2.0 features
- Additional Britannica Online features and content.

April 2nd, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

The Interactive Board. The workshop will look at all the visual components of this large white digital board. Throw
away the chalkboard because the ActivBoard can take any instructor’s classroom to the next level. The ActivBoard has
a library with thousands of images. Participants will be introduced many examples and lessons that are being used in

April 9th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Learning Excel for the Classroom. The workshop will go through all the amazing resources that are provided by the
United Streaming website. Learn to download videos, pictures, music, and other features that can quickly enhance the
learning environment. The workshop has unlimited resources for all content areas. Lastly, learn how to embed videos,
pictures, and music downloads from United Streaming into a Power Point presentation. St. Monica Academy, 5115 N.
