Ever wonder what a Wikis is and why teachers use them in the classroom? This site will define Wikis and provide resources and ideas on how to use one with your students.


TrackStar (http://trackstar.4teachers.org/trackstar/)

"TrackStar is your starting point for online lessons and activities. Simply collect Web sites, enter them into TrackStar, add annotations for your students, and you have an interactive, online lesson called a Track. Create your own Track or use one of the hundreds of thousands already made by other educators. Search the database by subject, grade, or theme and standard for a quick and easy activity. There is a fun Track already made for each day of the year, too!"


Rubistar

Rubistar is a free online resource that allows teachers to view/create asssesment rubrics for student projects. In addition, teachers can view sample rubrics from various content areas


Assign-A-day (http://assignaday.4teachers.org/)

"Assign-a-day is a free tool designed to enhance teacher and student communication through an online teacher-managed calendar. Teachers create a calendar for each of their classes and add assignments for the students to view. Students view their teachers’ calendars in order to see assignments for classes they might have missed, or to get an overview of the class."


QuizStar (http://quizstar.4teachers.org/)

"Set up classes and assign quizzes to those classes. Tell your students to sign up for QuizStar and to search for, then register for your class. If you prefer, you can register the students yourself. Once students take your quiz, go to Report Manager to view the report for that quiz. Repeat this process for as many classes and quizzes you have."

"NoteStar is an Internet utility to assist in the preparation of research papers. Teachers and students can set up research projects with topics and sub-topics. Students may then take advantage of NoteStar's many features to collect and organize their notes and prepare their bibliography page."


ThinkTank (http://thinktank.4teachers.org/)

"Think Tank is designed to help students (grades 3-8) develop a Research Organizer (a list of topics and subtopics) for reports and projects. Based on the subject assigned, the students can refine it by choosing from a variety of suggestions and by using a random subtopic generator. This helps students learn how to refine a subject so that it is more manageable for Internet research." http://thinktank.4teachers.org/


Project Poster (http://poster.4teachers.org/)

Project Poster allows students to make online school projects and short reports quickly and easily. Students can include one image (.gif or .jpg format), four links to other Web pages, and a report of up to 3,500 characters. These posters are available to the public on the Internet after they have been reviewed. The reports MUST relate to a school subject and the teacher must register so his/her students can use Project Poster, but there is NO CHARGE for its use.

"Web Worksheet Wizard is one of the many 4Teachers.org online tools. This web-based utility will allow you to create a lesson, worksheet, or class page and publish it on the World Wide Web."


Casa Notes (http://casanotes.4teachers.org/)


"...allows teachers to quickly make, and customize, typical notes that are sent home to parents or given to the students. Teachers customize some of the template content, choose a color scheme and add a graphic. The notes can then be printed on a black-and-white or color printer. Notes are offered in English or Spanish."


Wordle (http://www.wordle.net/)

"Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like.
